Mountain bike riding is a fun activity despite all the hard challenges. Time on the bike is the key but that means little time to play. With a certain plan, you don’t need to waste your money to be progressively fitter .
To be honest, for some getting fit is all about gulping a protein shake. But for an average person it is actually simple.
Eat The Right Things
Cut your sugar intake, avoid overly processed foods, wean yourself off copious amounts of caffeine and you might just be able to hear what your body is asking for.
Taking a fish-oil supplement or eating oily fish three to four times a week can restore our bodies back to how they should be.
Other than that, recent research has shown that a mixture of glucose and fructose drinks during exercise can improve performance by eight percent when compared to a glucose drink alone. This is a pretty big improvement in performance.
Commitment
If you’re going to do it, you might as well do it properly. Find out what motivates you, plan, set goals and go for it. When things get tough, remember where you want to be and why.
One thing for sure, it is all about your mindset. Never allow negative thoughts running wild in your mind.
Rest Properly
To improve, you need periods of stress and recovery. Sleep well and have at least one full rest day per week.
Sometimes the hardest part of training is resting. You’re feeling good, you’re energized, and you want to go for that ride, what harm can it do?
Resting means that the body needs proper nourishment and hydration after exercise to help repair muscle tissue and replenish energy stores. It also needs proper rest to aid in the recovery process.
Progression
Increasing your training intensity and volume will keep you improving.
Sometimes, all it takes to become a better rider, is a little thinking outside of your comfort zone. Other times, it can be as simple as a change in bike setup, or some quick exercises. Put some effort into making a change and it will happen.
Don’t Be A Weekend Warrior
When it comes to improving, consistency is key. Four quality sessions per week will give you much better improvements than one long slog that leaves you needing the week to recover.
This plan will help you to get fit as long as you’re determined. Don’t forget that fitness is important for mountain bikers.
