Cycling is not ALL about the bike. Have you found yourself in situations where the pad of your really expensive helmet starts falling apart after using it for just a couple of months? Or you had to ride with dirty shoes because you don’t wanna damage your shoes by washing it?
Worry no more cause here’s some useful tips to make sure your gear last longer and you can kiss your saggy spandex goodbye!
Clean your shoes with dishwashing liquid, water, and a brush. Take out the insole of the shoes and dry it separately. Crumple some old newspapers and stuff it into the shoes to maintain the shape and it speeds up drying too
Think that your cycling buddy stinks? Chances that he thinks the same way of you too. The key is to wash your cycling wear right after you cycle (and not leave it overnight in your laundry bag). If you can wash it the next day, soak in in detergent and hydrogen peroxide. You can get hydrogen peroxide from your nearest baking store or at the baking aisle of the supermarket.
When was the last time you clean your helmet? If your answer is a long time ago… or “I’ve never cleaned it before”, do yourself a favour and give it a good scrub tonight. Simply just scrub the body of the helmet with mild soap (dish detergent) and rinse with cold clean water. You can even take it in to the shower for a wash.
Also, high temperature will melt the hard surface of the helmet. Do not leave your helmet in your car or under direct heat.
We all have that pair of favourite socks that we put on EVERY single time when we go cycling. How do make your socks last longer? Simply, use a garment bag when you chuck it in the washing machine and DO NOT use any neither fabric softener nor bleach on your socks.
Now that you’ve read it all, its time to show your gear (and not just your bike) some loving. Share with us if you have any gear care tips or ritual!
